About Me
Three words that describe me are passionate, trustworthy, and selfless. I thrive on sunshine and coffee, and have an inexplicable love for penguins. I am always up for a challenge and love trying new things. I’m adventurous and enjoy dabbling in various sorts of new activities. I am personable, but I have a small, solid, core group of friends. I love meeting and talking to strangers; however I can appreciate time to myself. I’m determined, responsible, loyal, and true to myself. I can be a caring, intuitive listener at times and a defiant, stubborn, outspoken rebel at other times. I am prone to wearing my emotions on my sleeve, although in no way am I an open book.
A little bit more about me? I started playing the piano when I was four; since coming to college I have been playing considerably less, but I hope to get back into that soon! I was also swimming competitively before I could walk and still love the sport, but have more recently got into running. In fact, I recently completed my first half marathon in Columbus and am scheduled to run the IndyMini in May! I am currently a die-hard country fan, but I am starting to develop an appreciation for the Beatles and classic rock. I am particularly interested in traveling, food, fashion and design, cars, and the outdoors. I enjoy spending time with my friends: catching up at a local café, going to a Reds game, window shopping at Tanger Outlets, trying a new restaurant, walking around Mt. Adams, or spending a night bar hopping around OTR. I also enjoy time by myself: watching the latest TV episode on Hulu, cuddling with my dog, Max, running around the block, or curling up with a mug of hot chocolate and a great book.
I am a third year Biomedical Engineering major with a side focus in pre-medicine. I worked in the Cardiology/Pharmacology lab for about a year under the mentoring of Lauren Haar, M.S, and Michael Tranter, Ph.D. More specifically, my research project was about the genetic cardioprotective effects of a high-fat diet in the murine model. I have completed two co-ops so far with DePuy Synthes, a subsidiary company of Johnson & Johnson in Warsaw, Indiana. There, I worked in the knee department and was essentially a jack of all trades. I worked with the research department writing protocols and developing tests, the product development team following up on FDA documentation and requirements, and the design team developing UniGraphics models for the new knee Attune knee implant. Outside of classes, I give tours to prospective students as a CEAS Ambassador executive, share my enthusiasm for fitness and good health through CHAARG (Changing Health, Attitudes, and Actions to Recreate Girls), help raise global awareness and support the medical community of Burma/Thailand through GlobeMed, and fight racial oppression and promote diversity with RAPP (Racial Awareness Program).
This portfolio will allow me to document all of my experiences, reflections, and plans throughout my time here at University of Cincinnati. It will serve as an organizer, a planner, and a reminder; helping me to keep my thoughts structured and my goals clear. Within the next two years I plan to travel abroad, to take a class about a topic I know absolutely nothing about (and love it), to become great friends with a professor from one of my classes, to become a ROAR tour guide, to get accepted into the Medical Sciences Pathway minor program, to get more involved in Honors with LeaderShape, Honors Retreat, and Ambassadors, to create stronger bonds with my classmates, to kill it on the MCAT, to apply and be accepted into medical school, and to make full use of each and every opportunity given to me.

This YouTube video is one of my favorite videos of all time. I think it is extremely humbling and serves as a reminder for me to never judge an individual based on outside appearances, to avoid making assumptions, and to continue being myself and following my dream. I believe that everyone in the world could learn something from Paul Potts, and I want to exemplify that here.
